Marlies
van Geenen

Marlies van Geenen is working as indipendent furnituremaker since 1988. Craft is: again and again to start with rough material, and with improving technics, making a final product. She likes to use centuries old woodjoints as eye-catcher. With the natural charm of wood you have all the ingredients for a nice and sustainable piece of furniture. Sculpturing in wood, as she also does, increases her possibilities: playing with material and technics, without knowing form and function in advance.

My vision
With respect for nature, creating beautiful shapes from wood.

Craft design of furniture and utensil in wood is her job. The furniture is made with traditional woodjoints so they can be used over years. The naturalness of wood combines nice with the joints. Taking care of nature is important so she uses native woods or re-used wood from old furniture or constructionsites.

Materials
Wooden peg of various native woods.

Relation to the d.&a Expo
The wooden peg and the tea- and hand towel of Mariëtte Wolbert are a good combination.
