van der Linden

Renneke van der Linden was born and raised (the first eight years of her life) in Pakistan. She feels at home in non-western cultures. Other cultures and the contrast, but also the combination with Dutch culture, intrigue her. That is often the subject of her work. Van der Linden uses photos she took during her travels as inspiration and basis for her work. She combines several photos into new compositions. Based on what is actually seen, Van der Linden takes the greatest liberty a painter can take to create new worlds
VELP – Anyone passing by the Nieuwe Ruimte building on Den Heuvel in Velp this month will certainly have noticed Renneke van der Linden's paintings. The large, colorful works show figurative places from all over the world.

Other cultures, but also the coexistence with Dutch culture, is the subject of her work. She paints based on photos she takes during her travels. She combines those photos into new compositions. Based on what has been seen, Van der Linden allows herself the freedom to create new worlds.

'To tell about the travels by painting them out, hoping to find recognition of others.' 

​At the Academy it was not obvious to opt for figurative. “I was sometimes laughed at about it. They were considered too literal paintings, almost primitive. But I choose it. I need to have a grip on what I do and I want to be understood. I like it when people experience it as a celebration of recognition.”
