In 1987 I graduated as an illustrator at the AKI in Enschede. I like  cupboards, boxes, paper, cats, plants and Venice.

Through bookbinding I ended up in box making. I have been doing this for more than 25 years now. For a few years now I have also been working with paper marbling, together with my partner Harald (visual artist). We make an Amsterdam Marble that reflects the canals. I used the marbles to cover blank booklets and boxes.

For the travel books I recycle maps and school notebooks. These journals can also be ordered with a specific card.

My jewelry travel boxes are inspired by the Japanese "inro": articulated storage boxes that were hung with a cord from the belt of a kimono. Kimonos have no pockets and the inro were used to carry medicines, herbs or wax stamps, for example. For some of these boxes I was also inspired by the handmade beads of Lidia Tatò and used them as closures.

Through a love for paper, water, paint, craft and each other, Amsterdams Marmer was created in collaboration with artist Harald van Noordt. It is a contemporary form of paper marbling, which reflects the architecture in the canals.

 Although I'm not a globe trotter - I try to keep my footprint as small as possible - traveling always brings new ideas and energy, whether it's in the nature around IJburg or wandering through Venice.
